President George W. Bush presented Ralph Stanley the National Medal of Arts Thursday (Nov. 9) at a ceremony in the Oval Office of the White House. The medal, which is awarded through the National Endowment for the Arts, is the nation’s highest honor for artistic excellence.

Dr. Ralph Stanley is a fine "work of art" from the mountains. We should all be proud of his many accomplishments and the recognition that he brings to Dickenson County.

I believe ralph stanley songs come the heart and has that old time sound. His gospel songs make me feel like i've been to church. They really touch your heart.
