Ralph Stanley Museum To Host Dr. Ralph Stanley’s 82th Birthday Dinner & Fundraiser at Meadowview Convention Center

The Ralph Stanley Museum & Traditional Mountain Music Center will host Dr. Ralph Stanley’s 82nd Birthday Dinner and Fundraiser at the Meadowview Convention Center in Kingsport, TN at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2009. Celebrate Dr. Stanley’s birthday and 62th year in the music business with Dr. Stanley himself, music performances from the ETSU Bluegrass Band and some surprise guests, a first-class buffet-style dinner, and much more at this once-in-a-lifetime event! Tickets to the dinner are priced at $100 per plate, and guests may purchase them by calling the Museum at 276-926-8550.

Also during this event Kenneth Hari, Master Portraitist, www.hari.com will be unveiling his portrait of Dr. Ralph Stanley.

All proceeds from this dinner will be used to support the Ralph Stanley Museum & Traditional Mountain Music Center’s operating and programming needs. As a 501(c)3 private nonprofit corporation, no proceeds from the dinner will benefit Dr. Ralph Stanley and family or members of the Museum’s Board of Directors, and a portion of the ticket price may be tax-deductible.

The Ralph Stanley Museum & Traditional Mountain Music Center is a state-of-the-art music museum that opened its doors in October of 2004. Located on Main St. in Clintwood, VA, the Museum houses exhibits and artifacts from Ralph Stanley’s life and career, the Stanley Brothers, and the traditional mountain music of Dickenson County and southwestern Virginia. The RSM&TMMC also presents a full lineup of programming each year including the Ralph Stanley Museum Mountain Music Festival during the last weekend in September, the Music Along the Crooked Road Concert Series on the first Saturday evening of every month, the Passing the Pick and Bow Program, the Pickin’ Porch jams on the second Sunday afternoon of every month, and more.

Ralph Stanley Museum To Host Smithsonian Exhibition

The Ralph Stanley Museum & Traditional Mountain Music Center is one of six sites in the state of Virginia to be selected for the the Museum on Main Street program with the Smithsonian Institution, the Virginia Association of Museums, and the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.

In 2008, the Museum will work with these organizations to host the New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music exhibit for six weeks in Clintwood, VA. Additionally, the Museum will receive funding from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities for related programming and events.
